AZ StRUT teams up with Superior

for Sustainable Digital Equity

We are excited to announce the June 28th launch of our NEW Techie Lab community location in Superior, AZ. We envision our Lab as a transformative gathering place to build hands-on technology skills leading to future employment and training opportunities. AZ StRUT is grateful to the Super Bowl LVII Host Committee for their generous support of our work in Superior and other parts of Arizona.

"This is our first community requested, workforce development focused Lab. We are located in the Town Hall and will be open every Wednesday from 11am - 3:30 pm, " says Tom Mehlert, Executive Director of AZ StRUT.

Community members are invited to learn how to refurbish devices with us by filling out a volunteer application or stopping by on a Wednesday. We welcome you to visit us and see what we are doing to address the ongoing need for tech skills and tech employement training.

Thunderbirds Charities awards AZ StRUT $25,000

Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology (AZ StRUT) is honored to announce that we have been awarded a $25,000 grant by Thunderbirds Charities to support our Techie Labs and Camps. With their generous support, we plan to engage 300 students in our hands-on computer training in Maricopa and Pinal counties, spreading digital opportunities and equity.

Tom Mehlert, AZ StRUT Executive Director adds, “We continue to expand locations for our Techie Labs and Camps. Learners can earn their refurbished computer in our Camps or Labs, often their first personally owned device. “

Furthermore, AZ StRUT introduces the importance of sustainability to youth, who are the future leaders and innovators of environmental and community health. Through these efforts, AZ StRUT strives to build a stronger, more equitable Arizona technological workforce with a sustainable future.

“AZ STRUT is inspiring future leaders by providing hands-on STEM education in a fun and exciting way,” said Pat Williams, President of Thunderbirds Charities. “Thunderbirds Charities is proud to support this program as it will provide new opportunities for underserved youth in our community."

TECHIE CAMPS

From Casa Grande, to Superior, to Tucson and then Bapchule, a grand total of 78 students put their hands to work on computer hardware.

Techie Campers learned how to take apart a working computer and put it back together - in working order again, of course!

Team work, problem solving, tech skills and trouble-shooting are all put to the test as the Techie Campers rebuild the computers.

"We did it! It works!"

All campers take home an AZ StRUT refurbished computer, too. "WOW! I get to keep this?"
